Ducks and chickens are often overlooked when we think of animals in need – but they’re some of the most vulnerable and exploited animals in our world.
Many come from situations we can all understand.
Backyard flocks gone wrong – People buy chicks or ducklings on impulse, often around Easter or a supplement to a family's desire for fresh eggs, without understanding their needs and care the animals require. As they grow, they’re abandoned in parks, neighborhoods, or surrendered in poor condition.
Factory farms – In large-scale agriculture, chickens and ducks are treated as products, not beings. Many are confined in overcrowded conditions without access to the outdoors, proper veterinary care, or the ability to live naturally.
School hatching projects – These often end with chicks being discarded when the “lesson” is over.
Animal hoarding or neglect cases – Sometimes birds are found living in filthy, unsafe conditions, lacking food, clean water, or space to move.
In Care of Creatures provides these birds with something they have likely never had: a safe place to roam, dust-bathe, waddle through puddles, and feel the sun on their feathers.
They are intelligent, social animals with distinct personalities — curious, affectionate, playful, and deserving of the same compassion we give to any rescued life.
Every cluck, quack, and flap of wings here is a reminder: Even the smallest lives deserve big love.
